Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Training Opportunities

Requests for training must be submitted at least 30 days prior to date training is being requested.  

If you are interested in training on another topic please complete the training needs questionnaire and we will work with you to customize a training opportunity that fits your organization's needs. 

Training and Education Curriculum

Please see below for a list of current training educational opportunities offered by Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. Thirty days advance notice is required for training requests.

This session serves as a primer to diversity and inclusion concepts. The presentation includes basic definitions of important terminology, an overview of inclusion-related concepts, and case study practice. Whether it’s continuing students’ identity development or following training exercises that help strengthen our campus community, this workshop will help participants both navigate relationship building with peers from different backgrounds and utilize resources in the S&T community for further support.

Recommended length: 45 minutes

Recommended Length: 1 hour

 

Intercultural competence is the ability to develop targeted knowledge, skills and attitudes that lead to visible behavior and communication that are both effective an appropriate in intercultural interactions.

Recommended length: 1 hour

 

Intersectionality is the theory that the overlap of various social identities, such as race, gender, sexuality, and class, contributes to the specific type of systemic oppression and discrimination experienced by an individual.

Recommended length: 45 minutes

 

  • Enhance knowledge and awareness of LGBTQIA+ identities.​
  • Introduce and enhance knowledge of LGBTQIA+ terminology.​
  • Assist LGBTQIA+ and allied students in achieving educational goals by creating and maintaining an environment in which all can be authentic.

Recommended length: 45 minutes

  • how to respond to microaggressions
  • what a micro affirmation is

Recommended Length: 1 hour

 

In addition to fostering a greater sense of belonging for our LGBTQ+ students, this workshop aims to build valuable bridges between students in this community and their allies. SDI firmly believes that building community benefits everyone and we look forward to working with your group towards a supportive and interdependent campus community. This presentation includes self-reflective activities, exploration of terminology, tools for supporting the LGBTQ+ community while creating a more inclusive environment, and resources on and off campus for the LGBTQ+ community and their allies.

Recommended length: 1 hour

 

Acknowledging and understanding your biases and those of your colleagues can minimize the influence they have on the search. Spending sufficient time on evaluation can also reduce the influence of assumptions that may not be warranted.  This training will help you to understand more about how unconscious or implicit bias can create real-world barriers to equity and opportunity.

Recommended length: 45 minutes
